Our History

The late Rev. Vivian Earline Ledbetter of the Miami Lakes United Methodist Church and Michael Salem, then contracts manager for Church World Service, founded S.T.E.P.S in 2000. Their vision was to feed the poor and help those living on the edge of poverty. They set out to give Miami-Dade County’s poor and vulnerable hope in the future, provide support for the elderly and their caregivers, and advocate for basic human rights for all. .
